Russia Advances Military AI: New Drones to Match Cruise Missile Performance—Rostec

Russia is preparing to unveil new AI-powered drones that function with the capabilities of cruise missiles, state corporation Rostec's representative said.

Advancing technology is blurring the line between drones and missiles, with the Dan-T model serving as a prime example, he noted.

First showcased at Egypt’s El Alamein International Airshow in 2026, the Dan-T features:

🟠missile-like precision;
🟠high maneuverability;
🟠a range of hundreds of kilometers.

This allows carrier aircraft and helicopters to safely launch the drone from well outside enemy air defense zones, according to Rostec.

The corporation is actively developing several similar AI-driven projects, with newer, faster, and smarter systems expected to be revealed next year, the representative added.

Egypt Declares Turkey-Libya Maritime MoU 'Absolutely Void' After Libyan Parliament Ratifies Deal: MFA

🇪🇬 The Libyan-Turkish maritime jurisdiction memorandum of understanding infringes on Cairo's sovereign rights in its exclusive economic zone and continental shelf, the foreign ministry stated, stressing that the approval holds no legal consequences for Egypt.

The agreement violates the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and international principles of justice and equity, the ministry said.

🇱🇾🇹🇷 This comes after the Libyan Government of National Accord's House of Representatives voted unanimously on Tuesday to ratify the deal and reverse its previous decisions to reject it and cut political ties with Ankara.

The MoU was originally signed in November 2019 by former Libyan PM Fayez al-Sarraj and Turkey.

🇺🇸🇷🇺 Russia-US relations gain momentum following Putin-Witkoff talks – analyst

The main achievement of Vladimir Putin's talks with US envoy Steve Witkoff was strengthening mutual trust between Putin and Donald Trump and advancing Russia-US cooperation beyond the Ukrainian conflict, political analyst Dmitry Suslov told Sputnik.

According to Suslov, Russia's release of American citizen Stephen Hubbard was a significant goodwill gesture toward Trump, particularly ahead of the November 3 US midterm elections.

🔊"It is also no coincidence that considerable attention during today's meeting was devoted to implementing the diesel fuel deal and exploring other potential economic cooperation projects between Russia and the United States," he said.

Suslov identified Russia's readiness to resume trilateral talks with the US and Ukraine after the midterm elections as the most concrete result, arguing that the timing would keep negotiations separate from the election campaign and demonstrate Russia's willingness to engage with the Trump administration despite unresolved disagreements over a settlement.

Multinationals Must End 'Colonial Mentality' & Double Environmental Standards in Africa: Nigerian Expert

Transnational corporations frequently operate in African communities with disregard for human rights and the environment, exploiting weak regulatory enforcement, Dr. Maimoni Mariere Ubrei-Joe, a specialist in environmental governance and pollution control, told Sputnik Africa, commenting on the Niger Delta oil pollution.

Multinationals apply double standards in Africa, failing to adequately address spills or fairly compensate local farmers compared to their practices at home, he noted.

🔊Call for Binding Global Rules
To eradicate this colonial mentality, Ubrei-Joe called for a binding international instrument to hold these corporations globally accountable.

🗣According to the speaker, such a framework would ensure companies uphold the same strict environmental and human rights standards whether operating in Nigeria, Kenya, Madagascar, or Europe.

🔙 In early October, African civil society organizations cited the Niger Delta's oil pollution crisis as evidence of corporate impunity, demanding a binding UN treaty and international tribunal to hold transnational corporations accountable, arguing that affected communities lack effective remedies because corporations operate through complex multi-jurisdictional structures.

This Year's El Niño Could Be Strongest in 40 Years, UN Agency Warns

🌍 Sea surface temperatures in the tropical Pacific could reach 3.8°C above average between November 2026 and January 2027—an unprecedented level—with the peak expected in December, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) warned on Wednesday.

Global Impacts:

🟠East Africa: Above-average rainfall and heightened flood risks.

🟠Southern Africa: High probability of drought from November, threatening crops.

🟠Southeast Asia: Hotter weather, rainfall deficits, and an increased risk of wildfires.

🟠Americas: Above-normal rainfall is expected in the northwestern US, southern South America, North America, and the northern Caribbean, while drought risks increase in parts of Central America, the southern Caribbean, and the Amazon basin.

The WMO urged countries to prepare for these extreme weather shifts ahead of time.

👉Meanwhile, several East African countries—including Tanzania, Kenya, and Ethiopia—have already launched emergency preparations for the heavy rains.

'You Strike a Woman, You Strike a Rock': South Africa Remembers Albertina Sisulu, 'Mother of the Nation'

🇿🇦 On the 108th anniversary of her birth, Sputnik Africa reflects on the legacy of Ma Sisulu, a trained nurse and longtime ANC activist whose leadership and family sacrifice shaped the anti-apartheid struggle.

Highlights from her legacy:

🟠Mobilizing Women: Helped organize the 1956 Women's March, where 20,000 women protested pass laws, birthing the slogan "You strike a woman, you strike a rock."

🟠Keeping Resistance Alive: After her husband Walter's 1964 life sentence, she linked internal and external movements, enduring roughly 18 years of bans and solitary confinement. Mandela said she "kept the embers of resistance alive."

🟠Leading the UDF: In 1983, while detained, she was elected co-president of the United Democratic Front, the coalition that spearheaded 1980s mass resistance.

Her work building multiracial women's organizations and sustaining resistance under repression contributed to the internal pressure that—alongside international isolation—forced apartheid's retreat. She died on June 2, 2011, at 92.

🗣💬 Trump acknowledges Zelensky is cause of Ukrainian conflict still ongoing - expert

"His [Trump’s] words that it is easier to negotiate with Vladimir Putin completely destroy European propaganda about Russia's alleged inability to negotiate during the military crisis in Ukraine," political scientist Ivan Mezyukho says.

It is precisely European media, European officials who demonize Putin and Russia, claiming that Russia that allegedly does not want to resolve the military crisis, he adds.

"I think it is not without reason that Trump is not appointing his ambassador to Ukraine. He is in every way demonstrating his disdain for Zelensky," the expert notes.

Trump is exerting influence on the internal political life of Ukraine by publicly criticizing Zelensky, since Zelensky’s inner circle sees weakness in him, he adds.

South Africa to Phase Out Semi-Knock-Down Vehicle Assembly: Minister

The country will halt policy support for new semi-knock-down (SKD) facilities, Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Parks Tau, said at the SA Auto Week in Durban.

Other points from the minister's keynote address at the event:

🟠The government is reviewing the Automotive Production Development Program to strengthen local manufacturing.

🟠Regulations for complete-knock-down manufacturing will be tightened, and light commercial vehicles are under investigation for potential protection.

🟠To secure export markets, the sector is pivoting toward new energy vehicles, critical minerals beneficiation, and a new battery recycling policy.

Why This Matters for South Africa:

🔹Closes a loophole that undermines real manufacturing
🔹Pushes automakers to build vehicles locally from the ground up
🔹Aims to boost local content from 38% to 60%
🔹Targets doubling employment in the sector by 2035

🎓What is SKD?
🔘Automakers import near-complete vehicles in kit form
🔘They simply assemble them locally
🔘This lets them avoid import duties and create few jobs or investment

📹 Minister Parks Tau speaking at the opening of the SA Auto Week.
