Berlin Tech Worker News

Yesterday we concluded our 4th and largest tech worker conference in Berlin with 140 elected representatives from 40-different works councils. We had to decline further registrations due to limited capacity which is a clear sign of the growth and interest of tech workers, as political actors in the explosion of AI deployment.

We are also launching a new monthly online series on AI and Labour stay tuned 👀

First a warm congratulations to the people of Berlin!

Second, congratulations to Die Linke, the Greens and the SPD on today’s election results.

Elections are only the beginning - now the real work starts. We must hold the incoming government accountable, defend workers' rights and jobs, and stand together against racism, anti-migrant politics and the far right.

Join us on 26 September 12:00 in front of IG Metall Haus.

Political victories mean little unless we translate them into action! ✊

New coalition agreements between SPD/CDU/CSU propose banning @DWEnteignen, replace 8-hour day with maximum weekly hours, raise limited-contract duration from 24 to 48 months, make it easier to fire employees, end 3-day sick leave.

🤬In short it’s an assault on your labor rights!

React with 🔥 if you will spontaneously join today at the SPD building

Since January, Thoughtworks Germany, a global software consultancy, has motioned to fire Works Council members Olesya, Mohamed, and Charlotte. Three terminations in three months. Mohamed was suspended without pay since April.

The reasons for termination vary: GDPR, commentary on weapons industry and U.S. war crimes, Palestine solidarity in another.

The common theme is retaliation against tech workers organizing in their workplace.

On 27 May, the Berlin Labour Court holds the first hearing in Olesya's case. These cases will decide whether companies in Germany can fire Works Council members for speaking up.

Show up. Repost Instagram. Bring a sign. Stand with Olesya, Mohamed, and Charlotte.

We are in Stuttgart at ver.di conference,

Together @TechWorkersBER and ver.di union (ZdM KBTA Werkstat) propose our innovative “Worker to Worker” organising methods for wider adoption across labor movement in and outside tech.
